This month, we are running an eight-page article on leadership, which is broken up into several topics. But turning out information on such a large subject (countless books have been published on it) was more difficult than we had initially thought.
Thankfully, we received direction from local experts, who provided our writers with some great leads. Lisa Gruenloh, president of Purpose Journey, sent me an outline that we used to establish four components of leadership: vision, impact, style and well-being. Rod and Kelli Baxter, co-founders and principals of Value Generation Partners, also weighed with story ideas. And Heather Christie, president of Evolve Global, made offered additional suggestions.
The four of them are also sources for the piece, which begins on p. 14. The result is a comprehensive package that provides best practices, advice, testimonials and other information that will help you become a top leader.
Another how-to article deals with a more somber subject: Educating the public—businesses in particular— on how to deal with gun-wielding assailants.
Several Southwest Florida law enforcement agencies offer training for companies and their employees to prepare for mass shooting attacks. The requests for the programs have escalated in recent years following deadly episodes across the country, including one last October at the Zombicon festival in downtown Fort Myers, where a gunman killed one person and wounded five.
While grim to consider, the exercises raise awareness in the workforce. The story begins on p. 30.
