The Bottom Line

Companies reveal their strategies for 2007.

Lori Johnston

>>January is resolution time, and savvy business owners and executives are embarking on steps to grow revenue. We asked a few companies to share their plans for 2007.

FORESTRY RESOURCES INC.

The goal: 8 to 13 percent revenue increase.

The strategy: diversify products in its five landscape supply shops, secure larger contracts with municipalities and other clients, and expand through acquisitions.

Founded in 1983, the Fort Myers company manufactures landscape products for wholesale and retail distribution. Its sales were $15.7 million in 2005 and an estimated $17.5 million in 2006.

Traditionally clients have been small general contractors, but Forestry Resources, which has 63 employees, is focusing on contracts with bigger clients, says Doug Stewart, president and chief operating officer. In 2006, it began supplying Collier County with mulch and other roadway and landscaping products. This year, the company will also work with the City of Naples.

Stewart also anticipates making one or two small acquisitions in 2007 to expand its footprint along Florida's west coast.

Still to be seen is how the real estate slowdown could impact the business. "Additional relationships we have been able to generate have more than replaced lost installation work, or we haven't seen the slowdown hit yet," he says. He expects to be able to offset any losses on the residential-client side with commercial growth.

FOX ELECTRONICS

The goal: 10 to 15 percent revenue growth.

The strategy: expand sales infrastructure globally.

Headquartered in Fort Myers, the company has additional offices in Hong Kong, London and Taiwan. President E.L. Fox Jr. says it will be adding sales agents in Southeast Asia as well as Eastern Europe in 2007.

The company also will focus on growing its higher-end products. "We [won't] have to sell as many units to achieve the large dollars," he explains.
