Chico’s Reports Q1 Profit, Down from Q1 ‘17

Chico’s FAS Inc. reported a first-quarter net income of $29 million, down from a $33.6 million profit during the same period one year ago. Net sales for the quarter were $561.8 million compared with $583.7 million in last year's first quarter. The 3.8 percent decrease reflects a comparable sales decline of 5.9 percent and the impact of 41 net store closures since last year's first quarter, partially offset by the favorable impact of the calendar shift due to the 53rd week in fiscal 2017, according to a press release.
