CHICO’S INCOME DOWN IN Q2

Chico's FAS Inc. reported a second-quarter net income of $16.8 million, down from $22.7 million during the same period one year ago. Net income for the 26 weeks ended Aug. 4 was at $45.8, down from $56.3 the year prior. Second-quarter net sales were $544.7 million compared with $578.6 million in last year's second quarter. This 5.9 percent decrease reflects a comparable sales decline of 3.2 percent and the impact of 42 net store closures since last year's second quarter. The comparable sales decline was primarily driven by a decline in transaction count partially offset by higher average dollar sales, according to a press release.
