ENTREPRENEUR SPIRIT PROGRAM SET FOR OCTOBER

Dress for Success SW Florida is offering the Entrepreneurial Spirit Program (E$P) to provide future women business owners with the tools and support they need to succeed in their career. The event, which was originally scheduled to take place in August, has been rescheduled to be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 at Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co. P.A. (MNMW) in Fort Myers. The E$P Dream Team includes four women in the community, covering specific topics. Angela Cooley, partner at MNMW, will discuss business accounting; Christina Harris Schwinn, partner at Pavese Law Firm, will discuss legal documentation and incorporation; Barbara Melvin, vice president and community lender at First Florida Integrity Bank, will discuss small business lending and SBA loans; and Connie Ramos-Williams, president and chief marketing officer of CONRIC PR & Marketing, will discuss new business branding and marketing. All attendees will receive a certification of completion. A suggested donation of $25 to Dress for Success includes continental breakfast and lunch. FORMER FLORIDA CFO TO DELIVER EXCELLENCE IN INDUSTRY AWARDS KEYNOTE

Alex Sink, Florida’s former chief financial officer from 2007 to 2011, will deliver the keynote address at the Excellence in Industry Awards, held from 8-10 a.m. on Nov. 14 at the Silverspot Cinema. As one of four statewide elected officials, Sink was responsible for the state's treasury and accounting functions, served as a trustee for the state pension fund, directed the insurance consumer advocacy work, served as chair of Florida Healthy Kids (S Chip program), among many other responsibilities. Prior to elected office, Sink had a 26-year career at Bank of America, where she was Florida president from 1993 to 2000. She currently serves on the board of Verger Capital, a private manager of endowment funds. Most recently, the board of Tampa Bay WaVE named Sink as board chair-elect. The Excellence in Industry Awards, presented by the Naples Chamber, recognizes Collier County businesses and individuals that exemplify innovation, economic diversification, and community enhancement. Awards will be given in six categories: Business Expansion, Company to Watch, Young Professional of the Year, Heart of the Community, Pillar Award and Chairman's Award. DIAMOND VOLUNTEER AWARDS APPLICATION DEADLINE LOOMING

Applications are still being accepted for the 2019 Diamond Volunteer Awards, the volunteer recognition program that has been honoring local nonprofit organizations for their work in Collier County since 2010.  Three organizations are chosen each year to receive the Diamond Volunteer Award. Winners receive a cocktail reception for volunteers and board members, media coverage, educational opportunities, a framed award and inclusion in the Diamond Volunteer rewards program. Downing-Frye Realty real estate professional Kelly E. Capolino founded the Diamond Volunteer Awards. To apply, email a one-page case statement about the nonprofit organization along with who should be honored, and include why the award would be important to the organization. Send the one-page statement to DiamondVolunteers@gmail.com before Oct. 30. Winners will be selected by a panel of business professionals and winners will notified on or before Nov. 16, 2018.

SALUSCARE EARNS CARF ACCREDITATION

SalusCare Inc. has earned a three-year accreditation from CARF International, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, for the services it provides to the community. This newest accreditation runs through June 2021 and is an indication of the organization’s dedication and commitment to improving the quality of the lives of those served. In the 29-page report from CARF, surveyors noted that “SalusCare has committed itself to being the forerunner of behavioral healthcare services in the community it serves.” The CARF report also praised SalusCare staff for providing “exceptional and compassionate behavioral healthcare,” a press release states.

ALLIANCE FOR THE ARTS OFFERS PROGRAM FOR ASPIRING ADULT MINORITY ACTORS

The Alliance for the Arts is offering its next acting class for adult minorities. The class runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 22 through Nov. 10, at 10091 McGregor Blvd. Fort Myers. The Communities Harnessing the Arts to Nurture and Grow Equity (CHANGE) Program engages aspiring minority actors in theatre education, provides performance opportunities and a platform to convene dialogue on social issues that challenge our community through creative, artistic expression. Through the course, students explore the fundamentals of acting, character development and scene work. The instructors include Derek Lively, whose solo show, Welcome To My Soul, led to a first-look development deal with NBC (Universal); and Sonya McCarter, director, actor, and community engagement coordinator at the Alliance for the Arts. BNY MELLON WEALTH MANAGEMENT HIRES RUBENSTEIN

BNY Mellon Wealth Management has named Michael Rubenstein as wealth director in Naples. Rubenstein will report to regional president of West Coast Florida, Lisa Simington, and he will focus on advising clients in the Naples office on all aspects of their financial goals and creating strategies to help achieve them. Prior to joining BNY Mellon Wealth Management, Rubenstein was a tax associate attorney at Akerman LLP, where he focused on estate planning, probate administration, asset protection and wealth preservation planning.  Prior to that role, Rubenstein was a trust and estate settlement officer at SunTrust Bank Private Wealth Management in Fort Lauderdale. Rubenstein received a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, at Vanderbilt University, Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from University of Miami, and is currently attending the Master of Laws in taxation program at Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law. He is a certified trust and financial advisor.

Girls on the Run Looks to Expand Programming in Lee County

Girls on the Run of Southwest Florida, a national character development program for girls ages 8-13, is looking to expand programming in Lee County. The organization, which currently operates one site at the Bonita Springs Charter School, is seeking additional site locations for spring enrollment. The organization will hold an open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Bonita Springs Chamber. The informational meeting is designed for interested parents, teachers, school administrators and potential volunteers to learn more about the program. Girls on the Run is a 10-week program led by trained volunteer coaches who guide and mentor girls through a curriculum focused on teamwork, community service and self-respect. The goal of the program is for participants to develop a stronger sense of identity, greater acceptance of themselves and others, and healthier habits through food choices and exercise. Girls on the Run of Southwest Florida will serve at least 432 students in the fall; nearly 40 percent of these children will receive a full or partial scholarship to participate. For information, contact Melissa.Alvarado@girlsontherun.org or visit www.gotrswfl.org.
