Retail acquisition
>>Forestry Resources Inc. (www.gomulch.com) of Fort Myers will venture into Sarasota County with the purchase Englewood Landscape Supply, an Englewood retail outlet and supplier of landscape and garden supplies. Forestry Resources is known for its manufacture of FloriMulch, which is made from the famously invasive and confounding melaleuca tree. The Englewood store will bring the company’s total to six.
Habitat excellence
>>A senior housing project in North Fort Myers built by Habitat for Humanity of Lee County has won the organization a 2007 “Excellence in Construction” trophy from the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors Inc. The 60-unit, $5 million project is a first of its kind for any Habitat affiliate. The units are rented to seniors.
Expanding Dominion
>>Dominion Video Satellite Inc. is going into the television and radio production business. Dominion, which delivers Christian-oriented TV and radio programming nationwide and into U.S. territories and Canada through Sky Angel (www.skyangel.com), is launching Sky Angel Productions LLC. Kathleen Johnson has been promoted to president and Hope Daley has been promoted to vice president of the production company.
Radio star
>>Matt Johnson, a program director for B103.9 WXKB-FM, has been named among the nation’s top young talent nationwide by Edison Media Research. He was selected from hundreds of nominations the New Jersey-based research company received from across the country for its 30 Under 30. WXKB is a Beasley Broadcast Group (www.bbgi.com) station in Fort Myers. Johnson joins other winners participating on a panel at the 32nd Annual Conclave Learning Conference tomorrow in Minneapolis.

Chocolate cruise

Fifty dollars from every cabin booked for the “Chocolate Covered Caribbean Cruise” will be donated to the association. Workforce housing grand opening
>>The Avenues, a new workforce housing community in Charlotte County, is holding a grand opening from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. The sales center is at 24400 Airport Road in Punta Gorda. The Avenues is a collaborative effort between the private and government sectors to help answer the demand for local workforce housing.
