CHICO’S SALES
>>Chico’s FAS Inc. (NYSE: CHS) (www.chicos.com) reported today that last month’s same-store sales, those open at least a year, fell 22.1 percent compared with January 2007. Overall sales in January dropped 25 percent to $94.1 million, reported for a four-week period, from $125 million reported for the five-week period a year ago. “In view of the uncertainties in the U.S. economy and the pressures more specifically evidenced in the retail industry, our disappointing January sales results were not entirely unexpected,” Scott A. Edmonds, chairman, president and CEO stated in a news release.
MERGER GETS THE OK
>> Radiation Therapy Services Inc. (Nasdaq: RTSX) shareholders have approved the proposed sale of the company to Vestar Capital Partners, an international private equity firm, for nearly $764 million. Upon completion of the deal, each outstanding share of Radiation Therapy common stock will be converted into the right to receive $32.50 in cash, without interest. The company expects that those transactions will be completed February 21. Antitrust regulators approved the sale in November.
NEW NAPLES AIRPORT FLIGHTS
>>Continental Connection, which is operated by Gulfstream International Airlines Inc., will begin new service between Naples and Tampa. The airline will offer 18 weekly round-trip flights, starting Feb. 14. The new schedule will also include same-plane service from Naples to Tallahassee. Gulfstream will operate 19-passenger Beech 1900D prop-jets, featuring all-leather seats and full, stand-up cabin capability. For reservations and flight information, customers may book with travel agents or online or at www.continental.com.
COUNTING STARS
>> The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples has received a Mobil Four-Star Award for the fifth straight year, along with The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Naples for a third straight year. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, received a Mobil Five-Star Award, and is one of only 41 hotels in the United States and Canada to achieve Mobil’s highest rating. This is the 20th year that the resort has received this achievement. Since 1958, the Mobil Travel Guide’s ratings process has been based on more than 750 standardized criteria for hotels, more than 250 for restaurants and, more recently, 450 criteria for spas.
HOME SALES
>>Bonita Bay Group (www.bonitabaygroup.com) reported 28 sales last month in four of its communities, double the number made in January 2007. The sales included single-family homes and homesites, coach homes and villas at Verandah in Fort Myers, Mediterra in North Naples, Sandoval in Cape Coral and TwinEagles in Naples, generating a sales volume of $13.7 million. Dollar amounts of the January 2007 sales were not provided.

>> Bank of Florida - Southwest has announced the election and appointment of Michael Frye, Kaleigh Grover and Michael Riley to its board of directors. Frye is the owner of Re/Max Realty Group in Fort Myers. Grover is the associate publisher of Naples Illustrated, and Riley is the chief strategy officer for NCH Healthcare System.

>>Pro Med Instruments, an international medical equipment manufacturer, has opened a new sales and distribution office in Cape Coral.
