BEASLEY PROFITS DROP
>>Beasley Broadcast Group Inc. (Nasdaq:BBGI) today reported a decline in its fourth quarter and annual profits. For the three-month period ended Dec. 31, The company’s net income totaled $500,000, down 82.5 percent from $3 million reported during the same period in 2006. For the year, Beasley’s profit was $4.8 million, a decrease of 52.9 percent from $10.1 million in 2006. The company attributed the drop primarily to higher overall expenses, a $400,000 million increase in interest expense due to additional borrowings to finance the acquisition of WJBR-FM and the expiration of interest rate swaps which resulted in higher borrowing costs, and the $2.2 million impairment charge.

>> Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida has announced that Paul Flynn, past president and CEO of Southwest Florida Community Foundation, and Amy Gravina, president of Gravina, Smith & Matte, are the 2008 Business Leadership Hall of Fame laureates. The award recognizes business leaders for their professional accomplishments and community involvement. In 1983, Gravina founded the public relations firm known today as Gravina, Smith & Matte. In 1977, Flynn arrived in Fort Myers to serve as publisher of the News-Press. During his seven-year tenure, he played an influential role in the community’s growth and development, as well as in the newspaper’s success. In 1984 he left Fort Myers to help launch another Gannett newspaper, USA Today.

>>The American Red Cross Collier County Chapter will celebrate its 80th anniversary during “Dinner on the Lawn” from 6 to 9 p.m. on March at the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club. The theme of the event will recall the era surrounding 1928, the year the chapter was inaugurated in Everglades City. A Dixieland jazz band will play while a buffet-style meal is served. PRSA MEETING
>>The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Gulf Coast Chapter will hold its monthly luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 26 at Northern Trust Bank, 4001 Tamiami Trail N. in Naples. The program, titled “Learning to Surf the Content Marketing Tsunami,” will explain why companies today need to develop a brand new marketing mindset to succeed in the 21st century. The session will be led by Newt Barrett, president of Succeeding Today, content marketing strategists. The cost is $24 for PRSA members, $22 for student members and $29 for nonmembers.
