FORMER WHITNEY PROMOTERS INDICTED
>>Two infomercial and workshop hosts
who once worked as independent contractors for Cape Coral-based Whitney Information Network Inc. have been indicted by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Linda Woolf and David Gengler each have been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud and seven counts of wire fraud. The pair, both of Utah, allegedly portrayed themselves as successful investors as they promoted the “Teach Me to Trade” stock-trading program that cost victims up to $40,000. In addition to the criminal indictment, the civil fraud charges have been filed by the SEC against Woolf and Gengler alleging that the two made false and misleading statements to sell “Teach Me to Trade” packages for Whitney’s EduTrades Inc. subsidiary. Officials in the criminal case are seeking the forfeiture of certain real and personal property that Woolf and Gengler allegedly obtained “from the commission of the offenses with which they are charged.” Whitney Information Network is not implicated in the cases and is cooperating with officials.
