WCI POSTS LOSSES
>>WCI Communities Inc. (NYSE:WCI) reported a fourth-quarter loss of $459.8 million compared with a loss of $64.6 million during the same period the year. The Bonita Springs homebuilder posted an annual loss of $578.5 million compared with a $9 million profit in 2006. The company attributed the losses, in part, to a write-down of traditional home and tower inventory to reflect impairments caused by expected lower prices and slower absorption in some product lines.
NEOGENOMICS FINANCIALS
>>NeoGenomics Inc. (www.neogenomics.org) reported a $1.4 million, fourth-quarter loss compared with a loss of $400,000 during the same period in 2006. The company posted a $3.2 million loss compared with a loss of $100,000 the year before. The company noted increases in expenses for the quarter and the year—131 percent and 150 percent, respectively—due in part to litigation expenses.
GOLF CLASSIC PROCEEDS
>>The Minnesota Twins Celebrity Golf Classic raised $112,000 for Lee Memorial Health System’s Cancer Center. The new facility, which is being constructed at the corner of I-75 and Colonial Boulevard, is scheduled to open in October. It will provide consultation, diagnostics and programs for Southwest Florida residents.
NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
>>The School District of Lee County has selected GATES (www.gatesinc.com) to build the G. Weaver Hipps Elementary School in Lehigh Acres. The 122,244 square-foot school will house approximately 1,000 students, grades K through fifth.
LOCKS OF LOVE
>>Christiana Chiang, CEO of Charlie Chiang’s Restaurants worldwide, has issued a challenge to other women with long hair: join her on April 10 when she will cut her hair live on FOX 4 News. Tresses collected that day at Sir Daniel’s Salon, 5187 Tamiami Trail N. in Naples, will be donated to Locks of Love, a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
