ISLAND HOPPER SHATTERS ATTENDANCE RECORD

Attendance at the fifth annual Island Hopper Songwriter Fest increased by 23 percent over last year. The 10-day event was held Sept. 21-30 on Captiva, downtown Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach. Island Hopper showcased 79 singer-songwriters in 155 performances, entertaining more than 18,000 guests. The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau once again partnered with Southwest Florida Community Foundation and United Way to encourage people to help those in need via the SWFL Cares Fund. Thanks to the foundation, tolls on the Sanibel Causeway were waived from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22-23 to encourage locals to support Captiva and Sanibel businesses and attend Island Hopper. The sixth annual Island Hopper Songwriter Fest will be held Sept. 20-29, 2019.

BLUE CHIP AWARD FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

McGriff Insurance Services has released the following five finalists for the annual Blue Chip Community Business Award: Community Resource Network of Florida Inc., Myerside Resort and Cottages, NGALA Wildlife Preserve, Reliable Permitting & Business Support Services, and Zirilli’s Chilly Treats. The five finalists, who are chosen by an independent panel of judges, will be recognized at the award ceremony luncheon, sponsored by McGriff Insurance Services and BB&T Bank, on Nov. 1 at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa. NAPLES MAYOR TO EMCEE AWARDS CEREMONY

City of Naples Mayor Bill Barnett emcee the 2018 Family Friendly Business Awards hosted by Collier Child Care Resources (CCCR). The awards ceremony breakfast will take place from 8-10 a.m. on Oct. 16 at Hilton Naples, with networking from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Fifty-nine local businesses will receive a Family Friendly Business Award, which honors local businesses that have policies to assist their employees in raising their families. John Schmieding, senior vice president, general counsel at Arthrex, is the special guest speaker. ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGE TO NCEF PEDIATRIC DENTAL CENTER

Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida and the University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) announced a change in their administrative management at the NCEF Pediatric Dental Center. Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, Healthcare Network will transition the administration of the dental center over to UFCD, as Healthcare Network focuses on the Nichols Community Health Center, a new project that will enhance medical and dental health services offered to the community. UFCD will continue to provide the same oral health care services and educational programs, and it will take over the operational aspects of the center as well. The dental center will remain on the Collier Campus of Florida SouthWestern State College, where it has been since its inception. Patients’ families will receive official notification with information for making appointments with the NCEF Pediatric Dental Center and transferring their dental records. INDUSTRY APPRECIATION AWARD WINNERS NAMED

The Horizon Council and the Lee County Economic Development Office have announced the recipients of the annual Industry Appreciation Awards, recognized Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa in Estero. Edison National Bank earned the Business Citizenship Award in the small category, with one to 50 employees; and Pavese Law Firm won the award in the large category, with 51 or more employees. The Diversity in Business Award went to Lee Health; the Nonprofit of the Year Award went to Alliance for the Arts in the small category, with an operational budget of less than $1 million, and The Heights Foundation/The Heights Center in the large category, with an operational budget of more than $1 million; the Start Up of the Year Award was presented to Testimonial Tree; and the Business of the Year Award went to FineMark National Bank & Trust.
