EXPEDIA CRUISESHIPCENTERS OPENS IN NAPLES

Expedia CruiseShipCenters has opened a new full-service retail travel agency within the Village on Venetian Bay at 4380 Gulf Short Blvd. N., Suite 818, Naples. The new business is owned and operated by Tracey Codd and Dan Ganter, along with location manager Deborah Rogers. The Naples location will be Codd and Ganter’s fifth Expedia CruisesShipCenters location in Florida.

Expedia CruiseShipCenters—part of the Expedia Group family of brands—offers cruise vacations and more through its over 255 locations across North America. Expedia CruiseShipCenters vacation consultants are sought on a full-time or part-time basis, at their retail centers or as a home-based agent, a press release states.

SALARY NEGOTIATION WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN SET

The AAUW Greater Naples Branch will host a WorkSmart Salary Negotiation Workshop for women from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on April 11 at 1110 Pine Ridge Road, Suite 200, Naples. 

The workshop is designed to help women learn the skills to negotiate a salary for a new job, raise, or promotion. Women will learn how to identify and articulate their personal value and develop persuasive responses and other negotiation strategies. They will also learn how to conduct objective market research to benchmark a target salary and benefits, and about the wage gap, including its long-term consequences.

PBS CONTRACTORS NAMED BUILDER OF THE YEAR

PBS Contractors has been honored by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida Southwest Chapter as the Builder of the Year for 2018. The Annual Design Conference and Awards Celebration was held in December and honored local architectural achievements by AIA Florida Southwest members and advocates.

According to AIA, the Builder of the Year award is given to a company or firm that has exemplified a sincere and genuine interest in encouraging and affecting outstanding craftsmanship and quality in the performance of work on a specific project. 

WEISS JOINS QUARLES & BRADY

Quarles & Brady LLP has hired Miranda Weiss to the firm’s estate, trust and wealth preservation practice group as an attorney in its Naples office.

Weiss's practice is focused on estate planning; estate and trust administration; and estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning. Her experience includes drafting various forms of wills and trusts; advising and assisting clients with probate avoidance, creditor protection, gifting, and tax efficient distribution of assets; and researching and analyzing complex tax and estate planning issues, such as special needs trust planning and charitable gifting.

Weiss previously worked as an associate at Dunwoody, White & Landon P.A. in Naples. She earned her Master of Laws, Juris Doctor, and Bachelor of Science in public relations from the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she also received multiple awards for her work as an editor of the Florida Law Review.

JONES.SHOW EXPERIENCES MAJOR GROWTH

Randall Kenneth Jones’s JONES.SHOW podcast has recently experienced dramatic growth with total January downloads increasing by 78 percent over December, primarily due to a high-profile guest list, a press release states. Susan C. Bennett, the original voice of Siri, is a recurring guest and serves as the program announcer each week.

To date, JONES.SHOW has featured discussions with consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, weather anchor Sam Champion, singer Sara Evans, CNBC’s Tyler Mathisen, actress Faith Prince, television personality Ginger Zee and more. Upcoming guests include reality star Vicki Gunvalson, Hot Bench judge Patricia DiMango, and documentary filmmaker James Keach.

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR NAPLES CHAMBER CLASSIC

The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce will host its annual fundraising golf tournament, the Naples Chamber Classic, at 10:30 a.m. on May 3 at The Club at The Strand. A shotgun start will occur at noon.

The tournament allows players to network with other business professionals and community members. In addition, the event will feature raffle and auction items, prizes, one-of-a-kind experience holes and course exclusivity.

GOT ICE INC. OPENS IN ST. JAMES CITY

Third-generation Pine Island resident Eddie Barnhill Jr. and his wife, Jamie, have opened Got Ice Inc. in St. James City. Launched in January, the packaged ice distributor provides bagged ice through direct delivery for marinas, special events across Southwest Florida as well as 24/7 emergency ice deliveries for restaurants and ice-equipment rental. Barnhill started the business after the red-tide affected the success of his former crab and fishing business.

His 5,000 square-foot warehouse located off of Mallory Parkway has since been installed with state-of-the-art ice production equipment that purifies water to the highest possible standards, a press release states. Barnhill has also invested in a variety of commercial-sized ice bins, vehicles and trailers that can deliver ice for any size event or venue across the county. Southwest Florida Walk to Defeat ALS coming soon

The Southwest Florida Walk to Defeat ALS will take place on Feb. 23 at Miromar Outlets, WINK Playland, in Estero. More than 100 people are expected to attend the event, including wheelchair-bound patients and their families and friends, who will make a two-mile trek in the Walk to Defeat ALS to support ALS patients living in Florida.

The Southwest Florida Walk to Defeat ALS was originally created and hosted by a committed group of individuals led by resident Hilde Heard, diagnosed and living with ALS since 2007. Hilde created her first Walk team, Hilde’s Herd, just a week after learning of her diagnosis. To date, Hilde’s Herd has raised almost $100,000 to benefit people living with ALS in Florida and research.

The Walk to Defeat ALS is The ALS Association’s signature event. All funds directly support cutting-edge research, programs and patient care. Last year, these events raised more than $1 million around the state of Florida. Gulfshore Playhouse raises $12,000-plus through national challenge

Gulfshore Playhouse, raised a record-breaking $12,412.12 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Gulfshore Playhouse Education Fund, through the national “Bucket Brigade” challenge.

The tradition started in 1989 during the off-Broadway production of Steel Magnolias and has spread to theatres on Broadway and throughout national tours and select regional theatres. Funds will also support Gulfshore Playhouse Education and its programs, from in-school residencies and pre-professional theater training to community partnerships, audience engagement, and student matinees.

CMGA raises more than $600,000 for veterans’ charities 

The 2019 Celebrity Martini Glass Auction (CMGA), held on Feb. 8, at Artis—Naples, raised more than $600,000 for local agencies creatively meeting the needs of area veterans. The annual CMGA showcases up to 15 martini glasses signed by celebrities and heroes, then designed by artists from across the globe.

Annual BUG Chase 5K Run raises funds for local children

The Fort Myers Metro-McGregor Kiwanis held the 11th annual Calusa BUG Chase 5K run on Jan. 26 at the Calusa Nature Center in Fort Myers, raising a net total of more than $10,000 for the Fort Myers-Metro Kiwanis Club’s BUG (Bring Up Grades) Program and other local club-sponsored youth-service projects.

More than 320 registered participants traveled the trails at the nature center and a portion of the asphalt bike path on Ortiz. The race was timed with Chrono Track Bib Tag Technology and supervised by the Fort Myers Track Club. Weinstein Wilkes Financial Group served as the title sponsor.
