BEASLEY NAMED AMONG MOST POWERFUL IN RADIO

Caroline Beasley, CEO of Beasley Media Group LLC, a subsidiary of Beasley Broadcast Group Inc., has been ranked No. 4 among the 2018 “40 Most Powerful People in Radio” in the U.S. by Radio Ink magazine, a leading industry publication. The list and rankings are determined by Radio Ink's editorial board who review, analyze and discuss a wide range of specific data including revenue, number of stations, employees and more. Additionally, less tangible points are important considerations. Those include demonstrated leadership and influence of each individual that results in power within the industry as well as among those important to the industry such as advertisers and investors. Beasley is featured in the July 23 issue of the publication.

KIDNEY TRANSPLANT PROGRAM TEMPORARILY INACTIVATED

Lee Health announced the Lee Health Transplant Institute at Gulf Coast Medical Center is temporarily and voluntarily inactivating its deceased donor kidney program, effective Aug. 16. This inactive period is due to a temporary lack of surgical availability, and the program plans to reactivate in early December.  During this temporary inactivation period, the transplant clinic will remain open, and patients will continue to receive their pre- and post-transplant nephrology care at Gulf Coast Medical Center. All patients of the kidney transplant clinic have been notified of the inactivation period via mail, and Lee Health has staff available to assist in transferring waitlist time to any active transplant center in the state. Patients were also provided with a list of active centers and information from the United Network for Organ Sharing. The transplant team will continue to evaluate patients for potential future transplantation, and those who have decided to transfer their waitlist time to another location will be able to transfer it back to Lee Health upon program reactivation.

DEROMO’S PLACES IN OPENTABLE TOP 100 LIST

DeRomo’s Gourmet Market & Restaurant has earned a top spot on OpenTable’s list of 100 Best Al Fresco Restaurants in America for 2018. DeRomo’s was the only restaurant in Bonita Springs, as well as one of only nine restaurants in Southwest Florida and 26 restaurants in the state of Florida, to make the list. The selection process included combing through more than 12 million verified diner entries—from May 1, 2017 to April 30—for more than 27,000 restaurants in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The list was released on June 20 to encourage readers to explore the winning venues. Anyone who dines at DeRomo’s can share the experience with OpenTable via OpenTable.com or the online restaurant reservation company’s social media channels using #OpenTable100. If diners take a photo of their meal and share that photo to OpenTable’s Instagram with #dishpics, they have a chance to win a weekly giveaway.

MARTS JOINS PROJECT HELP BOARD

Miranda Marts has joined the board of directors of Project HELP. Marts is a Southwest Florida native and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) alumna, where she earned a master’s degree in both criminal justice and clinical mental health counseling. Marts is currently working toward her Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling credentials. Her career interest in child welfare began with her work in the dependency and delinquency system. Marts teaches parttime at FGCU in the department of justice studies. She also coordinates internships and runs a mentoring program that partners college students with at-risk teens in the community. It was through these two professional roles that she was introduced to Project HELP.​

FORMER INTERN JOINS MNMW

Cory Mahosky has joined Markham Norton Mosteller Wright & Co. P.A. (MNMW) after working with the firm as a Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) intern for the spring semester. Mahosky works in the tax division, helping to prepare individual and business tax returns and provide supportive accounting services. Mahosky received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from FGCU and is currently working towards his Master of Science in accounting and taxation, also at FGCU. He plans to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam immediately following the 2019 tax season.​

Naples Originals supports FGCU food pantry

Naples Originals has donated $1,000 to Florida Gulf Coast University's (FGCU) Campus Food Pantry from proceeds earned from Naples Originals' annual Foodie Camp, a series of cooking classes at member restaurants. The pantry's mission is to meet the needs of registered FGCU students who are financially unable to provide adequate food for themselves. Naples Originals is a group of more than 35 independent restaurants of Collier County, supporting nonprofits with culinary-related missions. For more information, visit NaplesOriginals.com.​​

Cajun Classic returns in September​

The 20th Cajun Classic will be played on Sept. 22 at Legends Golf and County Club in Fort Myers. Over the past 20 years, the event has supported charities and veterans. Funds from the three previous Cajun Classics have helped purchased Paramobiles, equipment that allows players, including those with disabilities and mobility challenges, to stand up and play golf.
