NAPLES MAYOR TO EMCEE AWARDS CEREMONY
City of Naples Mayor Bill Barnett emcee the 2018 Family Friendly Business Awards hosted by Collier Child Care Resources (CCCR). The awards ceremony breakfast will take place from 8-10 a.m. on Oct. 16 at Hilton Naples, with networking from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Fifty-nine local businesses will receive a Family Friendly Business Award, which honors local businesses that have policies to assist their employees in raising their families. BENSON SELECTED AS REPRESENTATIVE FOR FHB COMMITTEE
Ryan Benson, principal with A. Vernon Allen Builder, has been selected as a Florida Home Builders Association Southwest Florida representative for the Florida Home Builder’s Political Action Committee (FHB PAC). The FHB PAC is the organization responsible for much of the lobbying activity for the industry in the state of Florida. The state is divided into seven areas, each made up of several local builder association chapters. The Southwest Florida area includes the associations from Sarasota south to Collier and inland to Lake Okeechobee. Benson was one of two representatives selected for the PAC. Benson earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Stetson University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Florida International University. He has been in the construction industry for more than 15 years and was a finalist for the National Association of Home Builders Young Professional’s Award. In 2017 Benson was named as one of Gulfshore Business magazine’s 40-under-40 recipients. Benson is also involved in a number of building organizations.
LEE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR WINS AWARD
Lee County Tax Collector Larry Hart and his team have won the Legacy Award for excellence in the field of financial operations from the Florida Tax Collectors Association. It’s the ninth time Hart’s office has won a Legacy Award, having won eight previous years in a row from fiscal years 2010 through 2017, and now in 2018. A five-person judging panel made up of government financial executives from across the state selected the Lee County Tax Collector’s Office for the award, after examining its financial records, practices and use of technology. The judges looked for proficiencies in budgeting, innovation and automation, as well as a perfect annual audit report and a focus on customers. The Lee County Tax Collector’s Office has implemented new technology to streamline processes and partnering with companies to save time and money, a press release states.
DEUTCH TO PRESENT AT CBIA EVENT
The Collier Building Industry Association’s (CBIA) sales and marketing council announces Lesley Deutch as the speaker for the education series event held from 4-6 p.m. on Oct. 17 at The Club at Olde Cypress. Deutch will be presenting “Insights into Buyer Behavior: A closer look at changing buyer preferences in the Naples housing market.” Deutch, a Florida-based principal for John Burns Real Estate Consulting, previously served as vice president in the global real estate division of Deutsche Bank in New York, where she authored reports on real estate and economic conditions in major U.S. metropolitan areas. Deutch holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Wharton School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. SVN|KOVA EXPANDS IN CAPE CORAL
SVN|KOVA Fort Myers has hired Jesse Marker as associate advisor and Bob O’Connor as advisor, appointed to lead SVN|KOVA’s new Cape Coral market team. As part of the Cape Coral team, Marker and O’Connor will focus on all commercial real estate in Cape Coral, including sales and leasing for industrial, retail, land and multifamily, as well as buyer and tenant representatives. Marker graduated cum laude from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in legal studies, focusing on real property development and a minor in finance. In 2017, Marker graduated cum laude with his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Florida Levin College of Law. Previously, Marker worked as a commercial litigation attorney focusing primarily on real estate disputes and land use zoning issues. O’Connor held an appraiser license from 2008-2010, where he analyzed properties and prepared appraisal reports. He is currently a member of the planning and zoning commission for the city of Cape Coral.

WGCU Public Media is joining local community organizations in a campaign to promote National Estate Planning Awareness Week, held from Oct. 15-21. More than 120 million Americans do not have proper estate plans to protect themselves or their families in the event of sickness, accidents or death, a press release states. WGCU will recognize National Estate Planning Week by providing local residents a free personal estate planning booklet.
