An old skating rink in North Fort Myers is becoming something else entirely.

Caliber Collision, one of the largest auto restoring companies in the nation, is converting the old rink into a 22,037-square-foot facility to repair wrecked and dented cars.

Just next door, the former Ichiban II Asian restaurant, about 3,160 square feet, will be converted into an office building at the corner of U.S. 41 and Brown Road.

Caliber Collision could not be reached for comment.

Last year, the Lee County board of commissioners awarded Caliber’s LLC, Cross Development, a performance incentive grant of $24,753 through the North Fort Myers Revitalization Incentives program.

Caliber would receive the grant by adding additional landscaping over and beyond what the development order requires.

The new Caliber Collision is nearing completion and should open sometime later this year.
