What differentiates your startup or small business from your competition? Is it a proprietary design, new software or an innovative way you manufacture your product? Or maybe it’s your business’ name and reputation? All of the above and your business’ other ideas and innovations could be protectable intellectual property — patents, copyrights, trademarks or trade secrets. Developing a comprehensive strategy for your business’ intellectual property is key to maintaining your competitive advantage — and to leveraging that advantage to increase your revenues through licensing and other partnerships. During this FREE workshop, registered patent attorney Luca Hickman of Grimes LLC will explain intellectual property law, how “intellectual materials” are categorized into ideas, expressions of ideas and brands, and discuss the basic distinctions between patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. He’ll detail patent law, trademark law/protection and copyright law, and how to recognize potential patent, trademark and copyright issues. In addition, he’ll discuss trade secrets and contractual restrictions, such as work-for-hire agreements, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), non-competition agreements and non-circumvention agreements. At the end, he’ll answer attendees’ questions.
