Excel: 2-Part Series for Beginners.

This interactive workshop is for new users or beginners who wish to learn more about Excel. Want a spreadsheet to keep track of your business and understand how your business is doing? This series will teach you all the basics. It will not make you a pro, but it will teach you how make use of this useful tool to perform many useful everyday business functions.

SESSION 1 (May 1):

This interactive workshop will introduce Excel to first-time or infrequent users; walk them through some best practices and basic formulas; and highlight key differences between Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

You will go away with a clear understanding of:

  • Excel best practices (including formatting)

  • Basic formulas (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX)

  • When to use Microsoft Excel vs. Google Sheets

  • How to build a functioning budget.

SESSION 2 (May 15):

This interactive workshop will expand on the first workshop by explaining structuring, sorting, and filtering data; introducing conditional formatting; and showcasing Excel’s functionality with intermediate formulas and utilization of multiple sheets.

In addition, there will be an interactive practical where attendees will have the opportunity to use their new skills to analyze provided sales data to determine areas for growth.

You will go away with a clear understanding of how to:      

  • Structure, sort and filter data

  • Use conditional formatting (colors, font, etc.)

  • Use Intermediate formulas (SUMIF, COUNTIF)

  • Utilize multiple sheets

  • Analyze sales data

Matthew Dunham-Novoa studied Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Copenhagen, Denmark where he worked internationally representing some of the world’s leading cruise lines. He is a serial entrepreneur specializing in small business efficiency and automation, and a self-proclaimed spreadsheet aficionado.
