The IRS announced individuals and businesses in parts of Florida, including Charlotte, Collier and Lee counties, affected by Hurricane Helene now have until May 1, 2025, to file various federal tax returns and make tax payments.
The May 1, 2025, filing deadline applies to individuals who had a valid extension to file their 2023 return due to run out Oct. 15. It also applies to businesses with an original or extended due date, including, among others, calendar-year corporations whose 2023 extensions run out Oct. 15. In addition, the deadline applies to any payment normally due during this period, including the quarterly estimated tax payments due Sept. 16, 2024, and Jan. 15, and April 15, 2025.
The May 1, 2025, deadline also applies to the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due Oct. 31 and Jan. 31 and April 30, 2025. In addition, penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits due on or after Sept. 23 and before Oct. 8 will be abated as long as the tax deposits are made by Oct. 8.
