City of Cape Coral received a formal request to withdraw the proposal to rename Jaycee Park to Roger Dean Park, city officials said. As a result, the city will no longer move forward with the renaming process, and the public notice period regarding the proposed name change was officially terminated. Jaycee Park will retain its current name. Patricia Dean sought to rename the park after her father, who opened the first car dealership in Cape Coral, Roger Dean Chevrolet. In a letter withdrawing the request dated Sept. 30, Patricia Dean said it wasn’t her intention to upset Cape citizens or diminish the achievements of the park’s namesake, the U.S. Junior Chamber, or Jaycee for short, a leadership training service organization and civic organization for people between the ages of 18 and 40.
