NCH Healthcare System has announced it will begin to vaccinate “pre-hospital workers” in Collier County today, Thursday, Dec. 31. EMS and paramedics will be able to get the first dose of the Moderna vaccine at NCH Baker Hospital, WINK News reports. “These vaccinations will represent the first vaccine shots administered at NCH to our community’s emergency medical personnel with direct patient contact an at highest risk for developing COVID-19,” according to a news release. First responders in Lee County began to get vaccinated last week ahead of the county releasing the vaccine to those 65 and over in the general public. The Department of Health in Lee County began to offer the vaccine on Monday and has quickly run out of doses each day this week. The Department of Health in Collier County will offer the vaccine to the public over 65 beginning Jan. 3. It opened up appointments on Wednesday and quickly ran out of slots.

FTW RELEASE 2021 ECONOMIC PREVIEW

Florida TaxWatch (FTW) on Wednesday released its 2021 Economic Preview: An Uncertain Yet Hopeful Year of Growth. In 2021, the sectors with the projected fastest job growth will be leisure and hospitality (11.9%), education and health services (8.1%), and financial activities (8.1%), the report shows. Despite solid job growth prospects, there are some indications that these benefits will not readily translate into the consumer market, according to FTW. The predicted decrease can be explained partly due to falling stimulus and unemployment payments for many families, which originally offset some of the recession’s impacts in 2020, the company states. Florida’s housing market is predicted to remain a robust seller’s market in 2021 as declining inventory and strong demand drives home prices to new highs.
