INAUGURAL COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED

 Four men’s college basketball teams from America’s top conferences will compete in the inaugural Fort Myers Tip-Off from Nov. 19-21 at Suncoast Credit Union Arena. The early season tournament field includes the Boston College Eagles of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Loyola Chicago Ramblers of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Richmond Spiders of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Wyoming Cowboys of the Mountain West Conference. The Fort Myers Tip-Off has been launched by Intersport (https://www.intersportnet.com) in collaboration with Lee County, and it will highlight the Southwest Florida community to a national television audience when it airs on FS1, according to a press release. The Fort Myers Tip-Off will begin on Nov. 19 when Loyola meets Richmond at 6:30 p.m. and Boston College meets Wyoming at 9 p.m., marking the first time these schools have met in their storied histories. Losing teams will compete for third-place at 5 p.m. on Nov. 21, while the winning teams will advance to the championship game that will conclude the tournament at 7:30 p.m. that evening. BBGI TO ACQUIRE PHILADELPHIA STATION

Beasley Broadcast Group Inc. (BBGI) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire WXTU-FM in Philadelphia from Entercom Communications Corp. for $38.0 million in cash. Excluding one-time transaction costs, the acquisition of WXTU-FM is expected to be immediately accretive to Beasley’s free cash flow without materially altering the company’s leverage. Beasley intends to fund the acquisition through borrowings under its credit facility and cash generated from operations. The acquisition of WXTU-FM highlights Beasley’s focus on local programming and content and is complementary to the company’s six other radio stations and digital operations in the Philadelphia market, the ninth largest designated marketing area in the country. Beasley will begin operating the station under a local marketing agreement on July 23. The transaction, expected to close during the late third quarter or fourth quarter of 2018, is subject to Federal Communications Commission approval and other customary closing conditions.

BCB HOMES NAMES PRESIDENT

BCB Homes Inc. has promoted Greg Brisson to president. Brisson will assume the role from president and founder Joe Smallwood, who will provide continued leadership to the company as CEO. A 24-plus year industry veteran, Brisson began his career working for his father’s architectural firm focused on custom single-family residential design. In 2006, he joined BCB Homes as a project manager, where he managed and built new residences along with custom renovations. Prior to being promoted to president, Brisson was vice president of the renovations division of the company. Born in Northern Vermont, Brisson moved to Naples with his family in 1975. A graduate of Naples High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.

HERC RENTALS EARNS GRANT FROM FSW PARTNERSHIP

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW), the state fiscal agent for Quick Response Training (QRT) grants, has secured a $300,000 grant for Herc Rentals Inc. The grant provides the funding necessary to train up to 150 new hires for the company, according to a press release. Herc Holdings Inc., which operates through its Herc Rentals Inc. subsidiary, is one of the leading equipment rental suppliers with approximately 275 locations, principally in North America. Its corporate headquarters is located in Bonita Springs and the company has approximately 4,900 employees. This is the second QRT awarded to Herc Rentals in the last two years. The QRT grant lasts for one year and is targeted on the highly customized training programs that companies need to improve the transferable skill base of new hires. BAGEL SHOP OPENS IN BONITA

Straight from New York Bagels open in Bonita Springs. This second shop of New York native Kurt Sexton features kettle-boiled bagels, pastries and deli sandwiches, and it is open seven days a week. The shop held a ribbon-cutting breakfast celebration on July 19 with the Bonita Springs Chamber of Commerce. Straight from New York Bagels is open daily, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends, at 24830 South Tamiami Trail. Ferguson Enterprises supports Lee BIA Builders Care

Ferguson Enterprises has donated more than $11,255 to Lee BIA Builders Care, the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA). Funds were raised through its 10th annual golf tournament held at Tiburon Golf Club on June 15, and they will support Lee BIA Builders Care’s efforts to provide emergency repairs and construction services at no cost to elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged homeowners in Lee County. Including this year’s donation, Ferguson Enterprises has raised $80,000 to date for Lee BIA Builders Care. Ferguson Enterprises is a longtime supporter of Lee BIA Builders Care, contributing to dozens of projects over the past decade, and is also a 2017 recipient of Lee BIA Builders Care’s Contributor of the Year award.

‘Glam! Bam! River District’ raises $8,420 for PACE

 PACE Center for Girls, Lee County recently raised $8,420 during the Love That Dress! season finale “Glam! Bam! River District” event on July 17, hosted by Red Door Photography and Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida in downtown Fort Myers. The evening featured wine, tapas, prize drawings and performances by Glam! Bam! Burlesque. More than 100 dresses were collected during the gathering to be sold at discounted prices during PACE’s 10th annual Love That Dress! event on Aug. 22.  All proceeds benefit PACE Lee County, which provides academic programs and counseling services to girls and young women ages 11 to 18. Sponsors of the ‘Glam! Bam! Back-to-school fundraiser upcoming at Momentum Brewhouse

Eva’s Closet & Foundation will host a back-to-school fundraiser, “Back to School Bash,” from noon to 10 p.m. on July 28 at Momentum Brewhouse in Bonita Springs. The event will include face painting, El Local food truck, live music with Corey Nielsen, and various raffle prize items. The Naples Pubcycle will also be supporting and attending the event. Eva’s Closet will be collecting backpacks and back-to-school supplies at the event for children in need.
