CHRYSALIS AWARD WINNERS NAMED

The five local businesses and one local leader were recognized for their efforts at the 10th Annual Chrysalis Awards, presented by the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) and the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. The 2019 Chrysalis categories and honorees include: Cultural Achievement, IMAG History & Science Center; Business Development, Norman Love Confections; Eco-Innovation, Pure Florida; Education: Fort Myers Technical College; Sales & Marketing: Millennial Brewing Co.; and Business Tourism Leader: Jim Larkin of Crowne Plaza Fort Myers at Bell Tower Shops. The Chrysalis Awards are part of the Celebration of Business & Tourism Awards Luncheon and Trade Show held this year at The Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa with IBERIABANK as the presenting sponsor.

WALDROP ENGINEERING NAMES CFO

Waldrop Engineering P.A. has appointed Kevin J. Deardorff as chief financial officer. He will be based at Waldrop Engineering headquarters in Bonita Springs. Deardorff has more than 17 years of professional experience working with developers, contractors, and professional consultants throughout the state of Florida. Deardorff serves on the Collier Building Industry Association Board of Directors and various other organizations and committees. Waldrop Engineering, P.A. is a full-service development-consulting firm specializing in civil engineering, landscape architecture and planning.

 

FORT MYERS CHAMBER TO INSTALL BOARD

The Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce invites the community to join its June General Membership Meeting for the installation of its 2019-2020 board of directors and officers. The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Thursday at the Crowne Plaza at Bell Tower in Fort Myers. During the event, board members and officers will be appointed for both the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which works to support the Chamber’s efforts to enhance education in Southwest Florida. The Chamber will also recognize outgoing board chair Joe Mitchell, board members and volunteer committee chairpersons for their year of service. LEE COUNTY PORT AUTHORITY APPOINTS DIVISION DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

The Lee County Port Authority (LCPA) has named Brian W. McGonagle division director of administration. The division oversees the areas of air service development, communications and marketing, finance, human resources, information technology and properties for Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field in Fort Myers. McGonagle was most recently the director of finance for the LCPA, where he started in 1997 as a budget analyst. Prior to joining LCPA, McGonagle worked for more than 12 years in accounting and finance at the Bank of Boston. He started his career as a cost accountant for the United Airlines’ flight kitchen in Boston, and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts-Boston.

           

ZINNLAW RELOCATES IN FORT MYERS 

ZinnLaw has relocated its Fort Myers office to Green Office Park at 10501 6 Mile Cypress Parkway, Suite 114, to provide more convenient access to clients since it will be close to I-75. ZinnLaw maintains its Naples office at 1415 Panther Lane. Its principal, Brian D. Zinn, is a frequent lecturer on the topics of bankruptcy and consumer protection, has had many cases and articles published, and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania undergraduate school and Boston University Law School.  He has been voted a “Super Lawyer” by other attorneys in his field, is a recipient of the “Equal Justice Award” for devoting his legal services to the community, and is a former president of the Southwest Florida Bankruptcy Professional Association.  Zinn has been practicing for more than 30 years in the areas of bankruptcy, construction, contracts, foreclosures, and real estate litigation, and gives free initial consultations.

CHARLES JOINS GRANT FRIDKIN PEARSON P.A.

Grant Fridkin Pearson P.A. has welcomed Marcie A. Charles to the firm. Charles has practiced law in Southwest Florida since 2014 and focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, business succession planning and tax planning. She has extensive experience in corporate tax planning, having served as an attorney advisor with the IRS Office of Associate Chief Counsel (Corporate) in Washington, D.C., and an advisor to Fortune 500 companies when she worked in two Big Four public accounting firms. Charles earned her Juris Doctorate from New England School of Law and her Master of Laws degree in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.

 

FORT MYERS HOTEL EARNS CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE

Homewood Suites by Hilton Fort Myers Bell Tower Shops has earned a 2019 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. The hotel has received the award since its creation by TripAdvisor, now in its ninth consecutive year. Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations worldwide that have been recognized by past guests for continually delivering a quality customer experience. The Certificate of Excellence is based on traveler’s reviews and ratings posted on the TripAdvisor web site over a 12-month period. To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, meet or exceed a minimum number of reviews, and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.

Junior Achievement to host Bowl-A-Thon

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida will host its eighth annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser from 6-8:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 at HeadPinz Entertainment Center in Fort Myers. Bowl-A-Thon is led by event chair Cia Sherman of Parr Moto. The annual social event creates an opportunity for the public to spend an evening together at the bowling alley while raising funds for Junior Achievement’s business-oriented programs for local students. If participants sign up before the early bird date of July 1, they are being challenged to raise at least $600 for a six-member bowling team. After July 1, teams will be challenged to raise a minimum of $750 per six-member bowling team. The title sponsor for the JA Bowl-A-Thon is Sanibel Captiva Community Bank. Entech is a gold sponsor.
