U.S. Tax Day is extended, restaurants closed for dining, and more.

U.S. TAX DAY EXTENDED TO JULY 15

The U.S. tax filing deadline has been moved from April 15 to July 15, according to a Twitter announcement from U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who wrote he was acting at President Donald Trump’s direction. The White House previously announced a deferment of tax payments for 90 days with the original April 15 filing deadline. “All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Mnuchin wrote.
 

RESTAURANTS MUST STOP DINING IN

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order Friday afternoon directing all Florida restaurants and other food establishments to suspend any on-premise consumption of food or alcohol. Those establishments, however, will be permitted to operate their kitchens for the purpose of providing delivery or takeout services. The order also requires the closing of gymnasiums and fitness centers statewide. For more details, click here.

 

LEE COUNTY CLERK OF COURTS UPDATE

The Lee County Clerk’s Office has made temporary changes to its services, including limiting public access to all Clerk of Courts customer service counters. The Clerk’s office will re-evaluate public access at its office locations on April 3. Passport services have been suspended until future notice. Call 1 (877) 487-2778 for other passport serving locations. Marriage licenses are being provided if your wedding is in the next 60 days. You must start the application online at www.leeclerk.org and call (239) 533-5007 for an appointment to pick up the license. Wedding ceremonies have been suspended until future notice. Official Records – Recording Documents: If you know the amount of your transaction, you may drop off or mail your documents with payment, and a self-addressed stamped envelope to Recording Office, PO Box 2278, Fort Myers, FL 33902; or drop it off at Administration Building, 2115 Second Street, Fort Myers. If you do not know the amount of your transaction, call (239) 533-5007. Court Related– Filing Documents and Making Payments: Payment due dates have been extended 60 days. You can pay online at www.LeeClerk.org or leave your payment in the secure dropbox, or pay by mail. The drop off address is Justice Center, 2075 Dr. MLK Blvd., Fort Myers. The mailing address is Clerk of Court’s Office, PO Box 2507, Fort Myers, FL 33902. All Jury Duty is canceled until March 27. This date may be extended. The Self Help Center is closed and Legal Aid appointments have been suspended until further notice. FIFTH THIRD BANK PROVIDES SUPPORT TO CUSTOMERS AMID COVID-19

Fifth Third Bank, National Association, has announced temporary modifications to onsite banking services to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. Customers needing to conduct simple financial transactions are requested to use drive-through services, digital solutions such as online or mobile banking, or the bank’s network of approximately 53,000 fee-free ATMs. As of March 21, Fifth Third banking center lobbies will remain open to serve customers by appointment only and will not be open for general access. Bankers will remain available and ready to help by phone. Customers who would like to meet with a banker in person can schedule an appointment on 53.com, Fifth Third Bank’s mobile app, or by calling a local banking center. Additional support for consumer and business customers facing financial hardship related to COVID-19 includes the Vehicle Payment Deferral Program; Consumer Credit Card Deferral Program; Mortgage and Home Equity Program; Small Business Payment Deferral Program; Fee Waiver Program; vehicle loans; and foreclosures. Customers should call Fifth Third to participate in these relief efforts. In addition, customers are reminded that interest will accrue during the 90-day no payment period for each of the deferral programs. TEMPORARY ADJUSTMENTS, CLOSURES RESULTING FROM COVID-19

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, the Blair Audubon Visitor Center and boardwalk are closed to the public.DeRomo’s Gourmet Market is now open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with carry out, curbside pick-up and delivery available 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. DeRomo’s Restaurant is open from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Carry out and curbside pick-up is available with a limited menu. Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee closed Friday afternoon. Guadalupe Center canceled its Celebration Dinner at Grey Oaks and rescheduled its Charity Golf Classic, originally held May 1, for the fall.
 

GNL MASTERS CLASS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

Greater Naples Leadership’s (GNL) Masters Class XXV is celebrating 25 years of giving back to the Naples community. From October 2020 through March 2021, class members will participate in a series of educational sessions: Naples – Past, Present, and Future; Arts and Culture; Healthcare; Education; the Environment; Growth and Economic Development; Human Services; Government; and Immokalee. These sessions include panel discussions, lectures, and site visits. All sessions feature presentations by noted leaders in each field. After nearly eight years with Raymond James, Geoff Hunter was recently named branch manager of the firm’s Naples and Marco Island locations. Hunter, who has a decade of industry experience, first joined Raymond James in 2012 and has held a variety of leadership roles during that time–most recently as director of planning and strategy with the firm’s Private Client Group. Hunter holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in finance from Florida State University.

Harwick Homes has elevated Shane Klepko to a partnership role within the company. Klepko serves as vice president for the luxury custom home builder and full-service remodeling firm. Klepko is involved in all aspects of the company’s high-end residential home building, interior and exterior remodeling, and estate management divisions. Since joining Harwick Homes in 2007, he has helped grow its remodeling division from a small department to a major local, regional and statewide competitor, completing more than 350 renovation projects and consistently ranking among North America’s top 100 remodeling companies. Under his leadership, Harwick Homes completed more than 40 full-service remodeling projects, with revenues exceeding $8 million in 2019. Chris-Tel Construction has hired Durward Hussey as manager, construction operations. He has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry. One of Hussey’s more notable projects includes the Miami Access Tunnel construction, which was valued at one billion dollars, according to a press release. His responsibilities at Chris-Tel Construction will include management of overall corporate operations for the commercial construction group of projects over $2 million. Durward received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University and holds a Certified General Contractor license, a Certified Building Contractor license and a Certified Roofing Contractor license all with the state of Florida.

Charlotte Players holds Donor Appreciation Open House

Charlotte Players held its first Donor Appreciation Open House on March 11 for major donors at its business office and Langdon Playhouse in Port Charlotte. The invitation-only event, which featured hors d’oeuvres and drinks, took place six days before Coronavirus concerns forced the cancellation of all March shows and programs scheduled by the nonprofit community theater. Valerie’s House will host its fourth annual Sunset Soirée gala and fundraiser from 6-9:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Quail West Country Club in Naples.
