ALICO BUSINESS CENTER SELLS FOR $9 MILLION

KOVA Cos. and its brokerage division SVN|KOVA announced the $9 million sale of the Alico Business Center, located at 9961 Interstate Commerce Drive in Fort Myers. The 48,000-square-foot mixed-use office and retail space was sold by PIP IV Alico, LLC to Friendly Village, LLC. Bryan Flores of SVN|KOVA Naples was the listing agent on the transaction, facilitating the sale in 45 days. SVN|KOVA and KOVA Property Management took over the management and leasing of the Alico Business Center in 2016, bringing the property from 43% occupancy to 90% occupancy by summer 2018 before working with the owners to sell, according to a press release.

 

LEE HEALTH HOSPITALS HONORED FOR QUALITY

The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) recently awarded three Lee Health hospitals with Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) awards. The FHA award honors outstanding achievement in creating a culture of patient safety, delivering value and executing evidence-based practices as part of day-to-day operations. Cape Coral Hospital received the HIIN “Chasing Zero” Award (250 beds and over) for outstanding work to reduce patient harm and readmissions. Gulf Coast Medical Center and HealthPark Medical Center received HIIN Achievement Awards for outstanding work to reduce patient harm and readmissions. COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE OUTLOOK CONFERENCE SET

The Southwest Florida CCIM District presents its 20th annual Commercial Real Estate Outlook Conference from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 21 at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. During the conference, industry experts will discuss the economic and commercial trends for the coming year and what possible opportunities and challenges lie ahead. Economist Elliot F. Eisenberg is the keynote speaker, presenting “Economics 20/20.” Lesley Deutch, principal of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, will present “Changing Market Demographics & Project Design Innovations.” Danny Rice, managing director of Colliers International, Tampa Bay, Central and Southwest Florida, will discuss “Emerging Trends.” In addition to three speakers, the economic development panel consists of John Talmage, director of Lee County Economic Development; Jace Kenter, director of Collier County Office of Business & Economic Development; Dave Gammon, director of Charlotte County Economic Development Office; and Michael Swindle, commissioner of Hendry County – District 4. LEE HEALTH LAUNCHES NEW TECHNOLOGY

Lee Health has launched “On My Way,” a new feature within My Chart on the Lee Health app that allows patients to check wait times, make an appointment and secure a place in line at certain urgent care clinics, all from home. The feature is currently available at the Lee Convenient Care locations at 1682 NE Pine Island Road in Cape Coral and at 4771 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, with plans to expand to all four clinics in coming months. Lee Convenient Care offers walk-in medical care for adults and children. While urgent care clinics typically function on a first-come-first-served basis, On My Way allows patients to mark their place in line, minimizing their time in the waiting room. Lee Convenient Care also accepts most insurance. In addition to using technology to improve the experience while waiting at a doctor’s office, Lee Health recently launched Lee TeleHealth, which allows patients to use the camera on their phone, tablet or computer to see a physician with the push of a button. PRIORITY MARKETING EARNS BUSINESS ETHICS AWARD

Priority Marketing was named the 2019 Business Ethics Award recipient during the Uncommon Evening gala of the Uncommon Friends Foundation. The event was held Nov. 14 at the Burroughs Home & Gardens in Fort Myers. Finalists included Allyn International and Sanibel Captiva Community Bank. The Business Ethics Award is presented annually to a business that exemplifies a high standard of ethical leadership in today’s business. The finalists and CEOs of Lee and Collier businesses participated in a Business Ethics Roundtable on Oct. 30 at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). During the Uncommon Evening, Alexander (Alex) Bremner received the Honorary Life Membership/Lifetime Achievement Award, Julia Parada was recognized as the Champion Teacher and 26 students received scholarships. FUTUREMAKERS EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKGROUP LAUNCHES VPK CAMPAIGN

The Early Childhood Communication Project Team of the FutureMakers Coalition has launched “Power of Pre-K” campaign. The tools include children’s books, posters and rack cards written by the Early Childhood Parent Communication Workgroup and illustrated by local cartoonist Doug MacGregor that highlight the importance, availability and access to free, quality VPK. The team utilized survey results of the Southwest Florida region to develop the tools for community outreach to parents of upcoming Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) eligible children. The tools will be used to increase engagement with parents on the importance of obtaining quality, early childhood education and that it is free. They will also serve as a resource to employers for their employees as well as area pediatricians who also have a high cross-section of pre VPK-aged children as patients. The materials will be distributed and available through targeted pediatrician’s offices, onsite health clinics and break rooms where available at the area’s largest employers and local health facilities that provide annual shots for children under the age of four. The FutureMakers Coalition provided a $33,000 grant for development of the books, posters and rack cards, including funds for printing, content creation and curators. KITCHEN SOCIAL TO HOST LEADERSHIP NEXT

Kitchen Social, a new interactive cooking school in Fort Myers, will Leadership NEXT, a monthly program for advancing business professionals, from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 10. Participants at Leadership NEXT will hear from Kitchen Social owner Charlie Ragle, an entrepreneur who has owned a television production and consulting company, greenhouse machinery business and trolley tour company, among other businesses. Ragle founded Kitchen Social in December 2018 to give Southwest Florida residents a comfortable venue suitable for nights out and team-building exercises. Kitchen Social’s tagline is “Make Food & Make Friends: Experiences to Remember.” Leadership NEXT is free to attend for members of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce and $10 for future members. SANIBEL CAPTIVA COMMUNITY BANK PROMOTES SEGURA

Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has promoted Ken Segura to vice president and office manager of the College Parkway location. In his new role, Segura will manage daily operations and customer relationships, including business and consumer banking. Segura has been with the bank for nearly three years, serving most recently as treasury management assistant. Before his role in treasury management he was assistant branch manager at the College Parkway location. Prior to joining Sanibel Captiva Community Bank, he worked at Wells Fargo Bank and graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University.

2019 Tommy Bahama Coconut Classic nets $55,000-plus

The 2019 Tommy Bahama Coconut Classic, its 23rd annual event, netted $55,000 to benefit both The Children’s Advocacy Center of Collier County and The Garden of Hope and Courage.  The Coconut Classic includes dinner at Tommy Bahama on a Monday evening with silent auction items and a small live auction, as well as breakfast, golf, multiple food stations, specialty drinks and awards reception on Tuesday.  This past year’s golf venue was The Club at Olde Cypress. More than 120 people participated.

 

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida to honor family at February’s Storybook Ball

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida will honor Barbara and Tom Fewster and Beverly and Tom Fewster Jr. at the 26th annual Storybook Ball on Feb. 15, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. NBC-2 anchor Kellie Burns will emcee the themed event featuring an interpretation of “Mulan,” a celebration of perseverance, family, and Chinese culture. In black-tie optional or themed attire, guests will enjoy cocktails, and a silent auction at 6 p.m. dinner, and dancing to The Robert Williamson Band will follow, along with a live auction.
