CHICO’S Q3 PROFIT DROPS, LEADERSHIP CHANGES

Chico's FAS posted a net income of $6.5 million for the 13 weeks ended Nov. 3, down from a net income of $16.7 million for the 13 weeks ended Oct. 28, 2017. For the 39 weeks ended Nov. 3, the company reported net income of $52.3 million, compared with a net income of $73 million, for the 39 weeks ended October 28, 2017. Brand performance in the third quarter was mixed, management said, with results including the impact of recent hurricanes. Shares of Chico's FAS are down 20.5 percent in premarket trading to $5.82 (a nine-year low), a report states. Chico's FAS, Inc. has also announced the departure of Diane Ellis, president of the Chico's brand, effective Friday. The company has initiated a search to identify a new Chico's brand president. In the interim, the Chico's brand will be led by Shelley Broader, the company's CEO and president.​

TWO REAPPOINTED TO NAPLES AIRPORT AUTHORITY BOARD

The Naples City Council reappointed Donna M. Messer and Michael J. Lenhard to the board of commissioners of the City of Naples Airport Authority. The board comprises five citizen volunteers who are appointed to four-year terms to govern the airport authority. Other commissioners are Ted Brousseau, James Rideoutte and Kerry C. Dustin. Appointed to the board in 2014 and currently serving as chair, Messer is principal of Carl Ryan Associates LLC. She has also been affiliated with Kansas-based Overland Resource Group since 2008. Messer previously spent 30 years with American Airlines in a variety of executive positions. She serves on the boards for both the Women’s Foundation of Collier County and Baby Basics of Collier County. A Greater Naples Leadership Class graduate, she is also a member of the Collier Citizens Council and Women of the (239). Lenhard was appointed to a partial term on the board in 2017 and is the current vice chair. He retired from National Records Centers Inc. in Dallas, Texas, as president and CEO. He has more than two decades of experience in the records and information management industry and currently serves as first vice president on the Aqualane Shores Association Inc. board of directors. Lenhard is a private pilot and member of the Naples Pilots Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.​

STARABILITY CELEBRATES RELOCATION

STARability Foundation has recently relocated to a larger office to accommodate its expanding program offerings and increased membership enrollment. The public is invited to its ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by an open house until 1 p.m., on Dec. 11 at the new 5125 Castello Drive, Naples, location. The event will include a tour of the 3,200 square-foot-office, and a chance to meet the STARability board, staff, participants, and network of community members and organizations that sponsor and support the STARability programs. An RSVP is requested by calling (239) 594-9007. ​

DAVID LAWRENCE CENTER NAMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

David Lawrence Center  has appointed Stephen Spahr, Earle Borman Jr. and Jeffery Yun to its board of directors. Each will serve a three-year term.  Spahr is the senior vice president and assistant regional manager for Florida for Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, a financial services firm. Spahr will serve on the board’s development committee. Borman Jr. is a retired sales and marketing executive. Prior to his retirement, he was the senior vice president and division president at Reckitt Benckiser, a leading global consumer health and hygiene company. Borman will serve as chair of the board’s new community advocacy committee. Yun is the managing director of Wasmer, Schroeder & Co. Inc., a local investment advisor firm. Yun will serve on the board’s finance committee.​

 DANNENHAUER JOINS IMPERIAL RIVER CONSERVANCY BOARD

Dan Dannenhauer, owner and chairman of Five County Insurance Agency, has joined the Imperial River Conservancy board and will serve as a liaison to the Bonita Springs Downtown Alliance. The Imperial River Conservancy’s mission is to preserve and promote the Imperial River. They act as stewards for the river, one of the few Southwest Florida rivers that still goes from source to bay without interruption. Dannenhauer graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He received the National IIABA (Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America) Presidents Award for Exemplary Leadership and Volunteer Activities in 2007 and is a member and past chairman of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA), where he continues to serve on its PAC committee and Good Works Fund committee. He is also a member of the Lee Building Industry Association, United Way Keel Club, CREW Land and Water Trust, and and he has been a member of the Merchant Marines since 1997.​​

PALMVIEW FEATURES VIRTUAL REALITY MEMORY SUPPORT PROGRAM

Residents of Gulf Coast Village’s Palmview now have access to a virtual reality program designed to combat the effects of memory loss and dementia. Utilizing virtual reality technology, Palmview has implemented a new program that is geared to spark positive cognitive results for those with various forms of memory loss, creating pleasant and meaningful sensory experiences, reducing anxiety, improving spatial awareness and providing a unique cognitive exercise. The latest memory support program offered within the Palmview community explores how the recreational use of this technology can serve as a therapeutic activity for residents. With Palmview’s medical professionals and nursing staff working in conjunction with each resident’s family, the program pulls from residents’ past experiences or individual preferences in order to create a virtual reality environment that helps prompt positive emotional responses. LODESTAR AWARD RECIPIENTS HONORED

The Leadership Coalition on Aging (LCA) has announced its 2018 LODESTAR Award recipients, celebrating leadership in the field of health and human services, specifically with those making a difference in our community serving seniors. This year’s recipients are Grassroots Civic Leader of the Year: Dr. Jaclynn Faffer, president and CEO, Naples Senior Center at Jewish Family and Community Services of SWFL; Gift of Care Provider of the Year: Golden Gate Senior Center; Professional of the Year: Annalise Smith, senior vice president of engagement, Avow Hospice; and Volunteer of the Year: Hallie Devlin, Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders (SHINE), Area Agency on Aging of Southwest Florida. The LODESTAR Awards were presented during a Nov. 14 ceremony at the Avow Hospice Ispiri Community Center in Naples. Bradford Square Retirement Community sponsored the awards.​​​

 Joy in Childhood Foundation awards  $8,000 in grants in Southwest Florida

The Joy in Childhood Foundation, an independent organization powered by Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins, has awarded a total of $2 million in funding to 150 organizations nationwide, including Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida and Lee Health Foundation in Southwest Florida, as part of an effort to bring the simple joys of childhood to kids battling hunger or illness. The grants were given in honor of #GivingTuesday, held on Nov. 27. The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools awards $62,000 in Classroom & School Grants

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools held its annual Classroom & School Grants Ceremony on Nov. 26 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. Recipients were recognized at the event for their innovative and creative grant projects, that will enhance student learning in the 2018-19 school year. Approximately $62,000 has been awarded to educators, schools, and administrators throughout the School District of Lee County through its Classroom & School Grants Program. The program supports teachers and students by funding tools and resources that are normally not included in their budget, but are necessary for creating unique learning experiences. Teachers submit a grant application to The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools. Funded projects are focused on literacy, STEM education, and academic achievement of low-performing students.
