RSW REPORTS RECORD-BREAKING MAY
During May, 725,754 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers, an increase of 8.5 percent compared with May 2018. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 9.6 percent compared with last year. The traffic leader in May was Delta Air Lines with 187,907 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (141,576), American (122,639), JetBlue (85,852) and United (83,586). Southwest Florida International Airport had 6,018 aircraft operations, an increase of 3.7 percent compared to May 2018. Page Field saw 9,294 operations, a 29.8 percent increase from May 2018. In addition, slightly more than 3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in May 2019.

Oceana Global Logistics, a Fort Myers-based independent non-vessel operating common carrier and freight forwarder, is partnering with Florida Gulf Coast University to educate business students about the logistics workforce. Sissil Dep, founder and CEO of Oceana Global Logistics, spoke this week with students within the International Business Program attending Dr. Daniel Rottig’s course. Dep shared on the importance of international shipping and how companies like his help to navigate the logistical process of freight, transportation and customs brokerage. Founded in 2011, Oceana Global Logistics provides international services to meet supply chain needs through air, ocean, road and rail freight to deliver imports and exports in North America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Volunteers are needed for the Neighborhood Accountability Board (NAB) and a free training session is planned for June 29. The Neighborhood Accountability Board (NAB) is a voluntary diversion program for youth who have been arrested. Volunteers attend a NAB conference with the youth, youth’s parent or guardian, victim, and other NAB volunteers to develop a case plan for the youth. Volunteers represent the community in this process to address the harm caused to the community and determine how to repair the harm. To become a NAB volunteer, you must attend a free training session. The next Neighborhood Accountability Board volunteer training will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 29 at Human and Veteran Services in Fort Myers. Millennial Brewing Co. will sponsor the Uncommon Friends Foundation’s Backyard Fourth of July Fireworks Party by supplying locally brewed craft and select light beer. This first-time event is slated from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. for July 4 at the Burroughs Home and Gardens in downtown Fort Myers. In addition to the area microbrewery’s libations, the party will include fireworks viewing directly on the riverfront, barbecued food and vegan options by Bubba’s Roadhouse and Naples Smoked BBQ; kids’ activities; and free valet parking.
