BEST HOME SERVICES EXPANDS WITH PARTNERSHIP

Alpine Investors has invested in Naples-based Best Home Services and Frank Gay Services in Orlando. The partnership of these two businesses will serve as the foundation of Apex Service Partners. Apex will be a partnership of the leading home and commercial services companies across the nation. The businesses will continue to operate independently under their respective brands. Best Home Services and Frank Gay will be able to leverage their brands to expand their respective residential and commercial services across the state of Florida. They plan to grow to a $200 million a year revenue operation in Florida with the new partnership. To accelerate and support this growth throughout the state, Best Home Services will build a new state headquarters in Southwest Florida, creating more than 100 new jobs in the next two years, a press release states.

 

KARLL JOINS SCREAMING FANS MARKETING

Screaming Fans Marketing has hired Katie Karll as a senior account manager. Karll earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She began her career in marketing at ING (now Voya) in Atlanta, performing corporate marketing for financial services, later moving on to brand management at Georgia Pacific. In her career, Karll has provided brand development, advertising, innovation development and everything in between for national brands such as Quilted Northern, Angel Soft and a full spectrum of KraftHeinz products. Karll is currently the CEO and founder of Lakeshore Baby, a nautical-themed baby and toddler boutique clothing company.

 

MOORINGS PARK GRANDE LAKE NAMES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Moorings Park has selected Katy Kurili to be the founding executive director for its newest Life Plan (CCRC) community, Moorings Park Grande Lake. Kurili has more than 20 years in the retirement living industry. Most recently she was the executive director for the Glacier Hills Life Plan community in Anne Arbor, Michigan. Additionally, Kurili serves as interim vice president of the company’s Michigan portfolio of communities. Kurili, a 2019 Leading Age Leadership awardee, holds a baccalaureate degree from Tirana University in economic science. She is also a licensed nursing home administrator, core certified assisted living administrator, as well as a credentialed instructor and educational specialist on the subject of the aging process. Kurili will assume her new role in mid-August.

 

Marc Cohen

MIROMAR DEVELOPMENT NAMES MARKETING DIRECTOR

Miromar Development Corp. has appointed Marc Cohen as marketing director. Cohen joined Miromar Development in 2016 as creative director. In his new position, he will be in charge of all advertising and marketing for Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club, Miromar Outlets, Miromar Design Center and Miromar University Village. As the owner of a marketing and design firm in Manhattan for many years, Cohen was the creative force behind branding and lifestyle campaigns for clients such as Business Week, Forbes, ESPN, Murdoch News Corp, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. He earned numerous awards for art direction and design, including the industry-best Designer of the Year from Literary Market Place. Cohen has also created posters for Universal Pictures. Cohen graduated from the University of Pittsburgh as a biology major and earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture at Temple University.

 

HOLOCAUST MUSEUM AWARDED FOR EXCELLENCE

The Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center has earned a TripAdvisor 2019 Certificate of Excellence for the consistent achievement of high ratings from travelers. With this year’s Certificate of Excellence, the museum has now qualified for the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame, which recognizes organizations with five consecutive years of consistently high ratings from travelers.

 

FREE WORKSHOP FOR U.S. VETERANS 

A free ongoing workshop for U.S. veterans will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the SW Florida Military Museum in Cape Coral. Jim Griffiths, local entrepreneur, publisher and author of “Don’t tell me I can’t do it!” will be hosting the free workshops for U.S. veterans. The event is an introduction and future free monthly workshops will continue where veterans can bring their ideas, learn multiple facets of business, brainstorm with others, and get advice from professional guest speakers. As opposed to the complexities of business, the workshop’s focus communicates the habits, traits, and psychological behaviors which make the entrepreneur. This workshop series is self-funded by The Third Draft.

 

Abel Natali

O-A-K PROMOTES NATALI TO VP

Owen-Ames-Kimball (O-A-K) Co. has appointed Abel Natali to vice president of O-A-K Florida Inc. Natali most recently served as project manager for O-A-K. He was appointed to the O-A-K board of directors in 2016.  Natali is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  He began his career with O-A-K in 2006 as a job site superintendent and, soon after the completion of O-A-K’s largest project, was promoted to project manager. He was born and raised in Southwest Florida and graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in finance and business administration from the University of Florida.

THE IMMOKALEE FOUNDATION NAMES VP OF PHILANTHROPY

Melissa Phillips has been named vice president of philanthropy for The Immokalee Foundation. In the role, Phillips primary focus is on the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major and planned gifts. Additionally, as the vice president of philanthropy, Phillips will help develop and implement stewardship strategies that strengthen long-term relationships with major donors. With more than 20 years of experience in the humanitarian arena and a track record of raising more than $100 million in Collier County, Phillips most recently served as the executive director of The Erin Brockovich Foundation. She began her career as a social worker on a medical floor at a hospital, followed by a position within the mental health crisis unit; and also worked in private practice as a family therapist. She earned a master’s degree in social work from Florida Gulf Coast University.

 

GAMING INDUSTRY TECH EVENT SLATED

Registration is open for the Southwest Florida Regional Technology Partnership (SWFRTP) TechTalk, “From Pinball to Pong, PlayStation to Professional Gaming, How Technology Has Transformed Entertainment.”  The family-friendly event will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Saturn 5 Arcade in the Coastland Center Mall. Attendees will receive a complimentary $10 game card to use during the event. Registration is required at www.swfrtp.org and the TechTalk is free to attend. Guests will meet video gamer Steven Lee Kleisath, who smashed the Mario Bros. world record in 2015. In the same year, Kleisath was ranked third in the world on Ms. Pac-Man. In addition, John Russo Jr., CEO, Apollo Amusements and Bob Schuster Jr., regional manager, Apollo Amusements, will lead the TechTalk. Topics will include the evolution of gaming machines from mechanical to electrical, how the gaming industry has transformed from arcades featuring games like pinball, Pac-Man, and Centipede, to home entertainment consoles such as Atari, PlayStation, Wii and Xbox, and the surging professional gaming tournaments.

Hope for Haiti to host Pub Crawl

Hope for Haiti is hosting its ninth annual Pub Crawl on Aug. 10 in Naples. The party will kick off at Bone Hook Brewing Co. again this year, then travel to a surprise exclusive location, and end the night at Naples Beach Brewery. Kristen Clarke from ABC-7 will join as the event emcee. Each ticket includes three complimentary drinks (one at each venue), food specials, raffle opportunities and plenty of fun souvenirs. All proceeds from the event will support Hope for Haiti’s Mobile Clinic Program, which provides medical care to children, parents and grandparents in rural southern Haiti. Meals of Hope feeds kids in need through Summer BreakSpot program

Meals of Hope, the largest food pantry provider in Southwest Florida, is feeding 550 Collier County kids in need of food assistance as part of the Summer BreakSpot program. The children are attending seven Collier County summer camps, including the Salvation Army of Naples camp at the Fran Cohen Youth and the Gargulio Education Center in Naples. Florida Lions Eye Clinic receives $15,000 grant 

The Florida Lions Eye Clinic has received a $15,000 grant from The Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, which will be used for new medical and surgical equipment. The equipment and prescriptions enable the clinic to operate at quality levels using state-of-the art diagnostic and surgical protocols, with follow-up care, a press release states. The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation is the central organization established to foster the welfare of the entire Jewish community. The federation supports a number of local, regional and national organizations.

 

Neal Communities sponsors 20th annual Big Backpack Event

Neal Communities  sponsored the 20th annual Big Backpack Event in Fort Myers for the fourth year in a row. This year’s event, hosted by the Multicultural Centre of Southwest Florida, was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 28 at the Fort Myers Skatium Rink. The first 2,000 children at the event received a free backpack and school supplies. Local vendors also offered free eye exams, books, fingerprinting, haircuts and face painting. Neal Communities aims to raise at least $15,000 for the event each year and for the third year in a row, the company has surpassed the goal with nearly $22,215 in donations. In addition to financial support, Neal Communities employees volunteered at the event. To date, Neal has contributed over $70,000 for the Big Backpack Event.
