Hoffmann acquires Old Collier Golf Club in North Naples

Hoffmann Family of Companies, operated by Naples resident David Hoffmann, is acquiring Old Collier Golf Club, a prestigious 18-hole championship course on nearly 400 acres in North Naples.  

Patrick Utter, senior vice president of Collier Enterprises, the club’s seller, confirmed the ownership transition Friday afternoon. Today’s purchase price for the property has not been disclosed and has yet to be recorded. Situated along the Cocohatchee River, west of U.S. 41, the property originally was purchased for $7,299,000 in December 1998 by the Old Collier Golf Club Inc., an affiliate of Collier Enterprises, a Naples-based real estate investment and development firm. Ahead of the sale, corporate registration for Hoffmann Old Collier Golf Club LLC was filed in Florida on Aug. 11. 

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Old Collier Golf Club offers invitation-only membership and does not have a residential component. Its stately clubhouse at 790 Main House Drive is recognized for its fine-dining and wine program. The park-like setting course was designed by notable golf course architect Tom Fazio, who has created some of the top courses in the United States for decades.  

The Old Collier acreage stretches from U.S. 41 North to Vanderbilt Drive and from 111th Avenue North to Walkerbilt Road and beyond. The property wraps around the new Ferrari of Naples dealership, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Walmart Supercenter, Naples Park Elementary School and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, among other properties. 

The Hoffmanns have been private members of the exclusive Old Collier Golf Club for years. “We’re excited about the opportunity and trust from all the members to purchase the club,” says David Hoffmann, founder of Hoffmann Family of Companies. “Many of the members are close friends and we look forward to working with all the existing staff and management.”  

General Manager Steve Waugh and his team of directors and staff will all stay on after the transition from Collier Enterprises, Hoffmann said. As the largest private owner of commercial property in Southwest Florida, the Hoffmann portfolio includes 35 properties in Naples, the majority of which are downtown on Fifth Avenue South and the Third Street South district.  

This is not the first golf-related acquisition for the Hoffmanns. In May 2019, the Hoffmann family acquired Coral Cay Adventure Golf’s miniature course on U.S. 41 East in East Naples. Earlier this month, the Hoffmanns unveiled plans for a proposed 12-hole golf course adjacent to Balducci Vineyards, a winery that the Hoffmanns purchased earlier this year in Augusta, Missouri. 

Other sports-related ventures that are part of the Hoffmann Family of Companies include the Florida Everblades hockey team and Hertz Arena in Estero, Naples Beach Water Sports in Naples and Marco Island Water Sports and Regency Water Sports on Marco Island. The Hoffmann Family of Companies operates 34 companies in Florida and employs 2,300 people, a majority in Naples, and has more than 240 total operations worldwide with 6,000 employees, Hoffmann reports.
