M/I Homes, a homebuilder headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, has expanded its Southwest Florida presence with a Fort Myers/Naples division.

The new local division joins M/I Homes’ existing Florida divisions in Orlando, Sarasota and Tampa as well as 13 other markets in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas.

“M/I Homes has seen continued growth and success in its other three Florida divisions. Our company is excited with the development opportunities available in the Southwest Florida market,” said M/I Homes President and CEO Robert H. Schottenstein.

Kevin Brown

Kevin Brown, president of M/I Homes’ Fort Myers/Naples division, has 17 years of experience in the homebuilder industry and has spent most of his career acquiring and developing residential communities throughout Southwest Florida. He most recently was vice president of development for Seagate Development Group in Fort Myers and also previously was a Southwest Florida division leader for Toll Brothers for more than a decade.

A North Fort Myers native, Brown graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in business administration. He played baseball for UM’s two NCAA national championship teams and was drafted to the Atlanta Braves organization before retiring from Minor League Baseball in 2004 and launching his homebuilding career in 2005.

Encouraged by M/I Homes’ expansion in Southwest Florida, Brown expects to start construction on model homes in two local communities in the next 90 days. The company already launched Hammocks at West Port, a master-planned community in Port Charlotte.

The Fort Myers/Naples division is the 17th for M/I Homes, which has sold more than 140,000 homes since it was founded in 1976 by Melvin and Irving Schottenstein, cousins from Columbus who previously developed thousands of apartments and pioneered the development of one of Central Ohio’s first golf course communities. In addition to its four Florida markets, the company has homebuilding operations in Columbus, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Charlotte, Raleigh and Nashville.
