Southwest Florida International Airport posted its busiest month in its 39-year history as 1,514,046 passengers traveled through it in March, according to figures from Lee County Port Authority. The Fort Myers airport has served over a million passengers for four consecutive months.

It marked a 30% increase from pandemic-stricken March 2021, a 2.1% increase from March 2019 and a 44% jump year-to-date compared to last year.

The traffic leader in March was Delta with 284,407 total passengers with Southwest (254,061), United (197,294), Spirit (188,373) and American (180,542) rounding out the top five. RSW, which served 10.3 million passengers in 2021, was ranked the 24th busiest U.S. airport for the first quarter of 2022 with more than 2 million travelers.

The airport’s 12,168 aircraft operations represented a 6.1% increase over March 2021. Page Field in Fort Myers saw 14,111 aircraft operations, a 10% increase compared to March 2021 and the best month recorded in nearly 40 years.
