Fort Myers Beach Town Council approved plans June 17 for a resort, featuring 45 hotel rooms, a restaurant and retail space, in the heart of the barrier island. Four council members voted for building Myerside Resort on land next to Fort Myers Beach Public Library and near Fort Myers Beach Elementary School, while Mayor Dan Allers was the lone nay vote. Allers was skeptical of building a 54,000-square-foot building on a 1-acre lot, WINK News reports.
