Southwest Florida hasn’t been immune to the slowdown of new home construction for the second straight year. A report from real estate search company Point2 shows a 9% decrease in building permits issued in the state in 2023. The Naples-Marco Island area issued 3,633 permits last year, a 34.15% decrease from 2022. The Cape Coral-Fort Myers area experienced a 2.08% decrease after issuing more than 13,000 permits.
