Fort Myers City Council members approved the first designation of the city’s street naming program to Willie Battle Way, a 1960 graduate of Dunbar High School who turned into a developer, home builder and leader of the county’s NAACP. The honorary designation on Henderson Avenue will extend three blocks from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to north of B Street. Honorary street designations are meant to commemorate the honoree and do not replace the official street name or require readdressing the street.
