The Fort Myers Police Department will build a new three-story headquarters on an 8.5-acre site at 2150 Fowler St., across from Family Dollar. Approved by the city’s board of adjustments, the 175,000-square-foot facility will consolidate operations currently spread across multiple locations. Construction is expected to begin within three years. The new site will expand secure parking from 86 to 175 spaces and public parking from 20 to 81 spaces. Located near city hall, the county courthouse and downtown jail, the headquarters will be storm-hardened but not a shelter, WINK News reports.
