Marco Island City Council approved a tentative millage rate of 1.6680 on July 21 to fund its proposed 2026 budget, a 33.9% increase over the current 1.2400 rate. If adopted, it would be the city’s fourth lowest millage in 15 years. The increase would generate revenue for road resurfacing, bridge repairs, parks projects, wage adjustments and rebuilding emergency reserves. A $1 million home would see a $441 annual tax increase; a $500,000 home, $239. Council cited deferred maintenance and storm preparedness as priorities. Public budget hearings are scheduled for Aug. 4 and 18, with final adoption set for Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at 51 Bald Eagle Drive.
