The 2025 sea turtle nesting season is off to a strong start in Collier County, with nearly 400 more nests recorded than this time last year. But in the city of Naples, 36% of hatched nests have resulted in disorientations — caused by artificial lighting leading hatchlings away from the Gulf. With more than 300 nests still incubating, city officials urge residents to reduce lighting impacts by using amber or red bulbs, closing curtains at night and removing uplighting and beach furniture.
