A map shows the location of the Goodland Pump Station near Goodland Drive and San Marco Road. Collier County plans to upgrade the station’s mechanical, electrical and other systems.
Collier County agreed to spend $6.528 million to upgrade the 1980s-era Goodland Pump Station to improve reliability, performance and water quality in Goodland and the surrounding area.
The Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 25 approved paying Pasco County-based U.S. Water Services Corp. $6,528,463.95, plus a $500,000 owner’s allowance for unforeseen site conditions. The contractor, the lowest of three responsible bidders, will make numerous improvements, including upgrades to mechanical, electrical, chemical-feed and fuel systems, supervisory control and data acquisition, a generator, pump, piping and other components.
Collier’s engineering consultant, Tetra Tech Inc., evaluated the bids, and the winning bid is about 8% above its Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Cost of $6,037,500, county Project Manager Lisa Carrasquel, of the Engineering and Project Management Division, wrote in a memo to commissioners. She noted U.S. Water has more than 22 years of experience providing water infrastructure services in Florida.
The Goodland Pump Station at 2559 San Marco Road is slated for a $6.5 million refurbishment after Collier County commissioners approved the project Aug. 25. The station dates to the early 1980s and has major components approaching or exceeding their useful service life.
The pump station was originally built in the early 1980s, with upgrades in 1995 and 2005, making major components more than 40 years old and approaching or exceeding their useful service life, the memo says.
Engineering evaluations identified operational limitations, aging equipment and deficiencies requiring correction to maintain system reliability and current standards and to reduce the risk of equipment failure or service interruptions. Although the station is operational, deteriorating components and increasing maintenance demands create a potential risk of unplanned outages and reduced operational efficiency.
The 2020 U.S. Census places Goodland’s population at 312, but that drops after season.
