Vanderbilt extension curves east near Olde Florida Golf Club

An aerial view shows the Vanderbilt Beach Road Extension, a seven-mile roadway project in Collier County that is scheduled to open to traffic June 12. The project includes new lanes, bridges, intersections and pedestrian facilities designed to improve mobility and reduce congestion.

Collier County’s Vanderbilt Beach Road extension project has reached substantial completion and is planned to open to traffic shortly after 10 a.m. June 12 in Golden Gate Estates.

The 7-mile roadway project is one of the biggest the county has undertaken. The improvements include a new six-lane divided roadway with pedestrian and bicycle paths extending from the existing Vanderbilt Beach Road east of Collier Boulevard to west of Wilson Boulevard, where it tapers to a new two-lane roadway from east of Wilson Boulevard to 16th Street Northeast.

Other enhancements include improvements to Massey Street and to the existing intersections at Collier Boulevard, Weber Boulevard, Danbury Boulevard and Douglas Road.

New signalized intersections were built at Wilson Boulevard, Eighth Street Northeast and 16th Street Northeast. Phase 2, which is planned to extend the road from 16th Street Northeast to Everglades Boulevard, is in the final stage of design and may start construction toward the beginning of 2027.
