Fort Myers Beach is nearing completion of Bay Oaks Park, a long-awaited community project delayed by Hurricane Ian. The park will feature a multipurpose field supported by a $1 million state grant, four new pickleball courts, a quarter-mile accessible walking loop and 75 newly planted trees. The field, raised 3 feet with recycled concrete to mitigate flooding, can host two full-sized soccer fields and community events such as concerts and food truck gatherings. Town officials said the park will be the largest green space on the island and a vital hub for recreation and community activities. Completion is expected within the next month, WINK News reports.
