Cape Coral City Council unanimously approved nearly $31 million in incentives Oct. 21 for HCA Florida Healthcare to build a $300 million hospital at 322 SW Pine Island Road, where the company operates a freestanding emergency room. The proposed 200,000-square-foot hospital, near the intersection of Pine Island Road and Santa Barbara Boulevard, is expected to begin construction in 2027 and open in 2029. The 25-year incentive package includes funding for job creation, site development, property tax recapture and impact fees. Council members debated delaying the vote, while Lee Health questioned subsidizing a competing hospital. The project would give Cape Coral a second acute care hospital.
