Cape Coral contracted with Douglas N. Higgins Inc. to construct an irrigation water transmission facility in a corner of Yellow Fever Creek Preserve. The project in northeast Cape Coral supports the city’s ongoing North 1 Utilities Extension Project. City Council voted 7-1 at its regular meeting Oct. 7 to award the company the $32,910,150 contract, which includes a 5% contingency. Council member Rachel Kaduk cast the dissenting vote after voicing concern about the facility’s location in a preserve. Plans call for the company to construct the North 1 East Booster Station on a 14.2-acre parcel in the preserve’s northeast corner. The facility’s main components include two 5 million-gallon irrigation water storage tanks, a metering station, a reclaimed water booster station and underground utility piping.
