Florida farm equipment taxes at center of Amendment 2 vote

Supporters say the measure would reduce operating costs for farmers, while opponents warn of lost revenue for local governments.

Florida voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to eliminate tangible personal property taxes on qualifying agricultural equipment under Amendment 2. Businesses currently receive a $25,000 exemption on taxable equipment, but farmers with expensive machinery can face additional annual property taxes. The proposed constitutional amendment would exempt qualifying equipment used in farming, potentially reducing operating costs for citrus growers and other agricultural businesses across Southwest Florida. Supporters say the measure would provide financial relief to farmers facing rising expenses. Opponents warn that eliminating the tax could reduce revenue for local governments and school districts. Passage requires at least 60% voter approval, WINK News reports.
