Cape Coral City Hall

Cape Coral City Hall is at 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral could save $3.8 million to $6.5 million annually in personnel costs, even though its municipal workforce is relatively lean, according to a Florida Department of Government Efficiency review.

The state examined 1,554 budgeted civilian positions and identified as many as 17 management jobs for possible restructuring. It also flagged more than $100 million in contract amendments and change orders across recent fiscal years, raising questions about purchasing competition.

City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn said that some engineering contracts may have been incorrectly classified as noncompetitive because of how the city records them.

The review also identified 84 police department vacancies, representing roughly $7 million in budgeted salaries. Cape Coral has already eliminated six vacant positions worth $849,680.

Ilczyszyn said the review found no fraud or illegal spending. The city expects to respond to DOGE’s recommendations by the end of October.
