Florida reported 5,590 first-time unemployment claims for the week ending Sept. 20, the lowest weekly total since March, according to Department of Labor data. The figure was down from a revised 6,075 claims filed the prior week. The Florida Department of Commerce recently announced the state’s August unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.8% from 3.7% in July. Nationally, 218,000 new jobless applications were filed last week, down from 232,000 the week before. The U.S. unemployment rate in August stood at 4.3%. While national figures are seasonally adjusted, state-level claims are not.
