Fort Myers ranked No. 1 among U.S. metro areas for net migration among Generation X movers in U-Haul’s midyear 2026 analysis of one-way customer moves from July 2025 through June 2026.
Fort Myers ranked as the nation’s top metro for attracting Generation X movers in U-Haul’s midyear 2026 migration analysis. The company analyzed one-way truck, trailer and U-Box moves from July 2025 through June 2026, ranking destinations by their net gain of customers. Florida was the top state for Gen X, born from 1965 through 1980, followed by Texas and South Carolina. The North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metro ranked third nationally for the generation. Florida also ranked first among states for millennial net migration and third for baby boomers. It was the only state to post a top-10 net gain among all four generations analyzed.
