The Florida Department of Commerce reported August job growth in Southwest Florida, led by gains in government and health services. The Cape Coral-Fort Myers metro added 1,200 government jobs and 1,100 in education and health services, while Naples-Marco Island added 500 in education and health services. Private sector employment rose by 800 jobs in Cape Coral-Fort Myers and 300 in Naples. Both metro areas posted unemployment rates of 4.8%, up 0.8 percentage points from last year. Statewide, private sector employment increased by 85,400 jobs over the year, driven by growth in construction, information and manufacturing.
