La Ola Surfside Restaurant unveiled renderings of its planned two-story building at 1035 Estero Blvd. on Fort Myers Beach, more than four years after Hurricane Ian damaged the property. Owner Tom Houghton said construction is expected to begin by May 2027, with an anticipated opening Feb. 1, 2028. The proposed building will feature an upstairs octagonal tiki bar with panoramic views. The restaurant is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on a flood-zone map revision that could allow ground-floor operations with protective flood panels. Permitting is expected to begin soon as the business advances its long-awaited reconstruction plans, WINK News reports.
