Lee County commissioners approved $3.97 million in agreements for beach and shoreline projects funded by the county’s Tourist Development Tax. The agreements are part of nearly $13 million budgeted for the Beach and Shoreline Program in fiscal 2026-27 and involve Cape Coral, Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, the Captiva Erosion Prevention District and several organizations. Projects primarily cover maintenance of beach facilities, including public access, restrooms and equipment. Additional county funding is earmarked for beach nourishment, marine debris and shoreline cleanup, Big Carlos Pass Park, Bonita Beach access improvements and Fort Myers Beach Tram service. The Beach and Shoreline Program receives 26.4% of Tourist Development Tax revenue collected from short-term lodging.
