Lee Health has completed Florida’s first pediatric scoliosis surgery using robotic assistance, marking a milestone in advanced surgical care for children. The two-stage procedure combined neurosurgical and orthopedic techniques, using a robotic arm and computer navigation to guide precise placement of spinal hardware. The surgery corrected severe spinal curvature and followed an earlier operation to untether the patient’s spinal cord, improving safety and outcomes. Physicians from Lee Health, Pediatric Orthopedics of SWFL and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital collaborated on the complex treatment. Officials said the innovation improves recovery, reduces complications and allows families to access advanced care close to home.
