Lee Health will end its hospital and physician contracts with UnitedHealthcare on Dec. 31, making the health system out-of-network for affected employer-based, individual and Medicare Advantage plans beginning Jan. 1. UnitedHealthcare said Lee Health unexpectedly issued the termination notice Aug. 26 without prior discussions or negotiations. The insurer said it plans to use the remaining four months of the contract to seek a new agreement that maintains access to Lee Health. Lee Health said patients should keep appointments scheduled through 2026 and review their options before canceling 2027 care. Some patients may qualify for temporary in-network coverage through UnitedHealthcare’s Continuity of Care process.
